With a total of fifteen years editorial and production experience in both print and online publishing I have gained enormous experience in the world of publishing. Initially based in a leading Scientific and Medical typesetters and printers I have worked as a production editor on manuscripts for a wide variety of clients such as Elsevier Science, Wiley, Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press. My more recent work experience was gained in Thomson Reuters, legal publishing unit in Yorkshire where I worked as an editorial specialist for nine years until 2009. As such I have an extensive knowledge of publishing practices and methodologies, specializing in online publishing, report and business writing.
Similarly I have extensive language skills in French to English translation which was my specialist thesis area during my final year at University. I have lived in France and studied at l’Université de Poitiers whilst completing my studies in linguistics and am a fluent French speaker.
Currently working as a freelance editor, abstractor and indexer, I create online content for Roundhall, a Legal Publisher based in Dublin that provides a daily legal news service for barristers and solicitors.
My vast editorial experience and interest in languages afford me the benefit of a keen eye when it comes to spotting spelling, grammatical, language or contextual errors in content. I am interested in preserving the tenet of what the author is trying to convey and as such prefer not to over-edit. However I would always query any aspect of a manuscript where there is doubt about the author’s intent or make suggestions on improvements where further clarification is needed. I specialize in editing online content often for clients whose first language is not English and I am well versed in the technical and structural requirements necessary to ensure successful publication online.
