The Editors of the journal are pleased to announce that the JARHE is now published by Emerald and to offer this first edition. Previous editions were published by the University of Glamorgan and are available online. The journal remains committed to the central philosophy articulated in the very first edition, namely that the central aim is to promote improved practice by encouraging informed debate into pedagogic and related matters in higher education. Papers are welcome from all disciplines and subject areas covering higher education policy and management, learning and teaching, assessment, curriculum development and quality enhancement. The Editors believe that the central aim will be secured by encouraging a wide range of papers including theoretical and evidence-based research papers (including those with innovative methodologies), case studies and reviews. The journal also welcomes shorter papers, including those that comment on recent developments and/or directly seek to engage in controversy.
The concerns of this volume deal with issues for students, academic staff and secretariat staff in higher education. There are four papers which focus on students, these are: student satisfaction, student confidence in applying research methods, research methods toolkit and preparing students to be effective communicators. One paper considers research obstacles for staff and there is an exploration of the professional identity of secretariat staff in higher education.
The journal continues to attract a wide range of topics by authors from an increasing number of countries. The Editors believe that in doing this we are contributing to the debates around higher education around the UK and the rest of the world.
