ACTHR seeks to advance knowledge and sense-making skills in interpreting cultural, organizational, and personal influences relating to tourism and hospitality behaviors. This broad objective includes examining unconscious and conscious thinking processes of tourists, guests, and/or service providers in contexts that relate to tourism and hospitality. The series aims to be eclectic in providing both in-depth and holistic examinations of antecedents, process transformations, and immediate and long-range outcomes of contexts, thoughts, actions, behaviors, and interpretations relating to tourism and hospitality topics. ACTHR seeks papers by authors from the behavioral sciences, journalism, tourism and hospitality, and management. All papers published in the ACTHR are double-blind reviewed and authors receive comments for revising and reasons for acceptance or rejection of their submissions. ACTHR volumes include the names and affiliations of editorial board members; paper assessments include comments by occasional reviewers as well.
The ACTHR provides medium length (20 to 50 printed pages) to long reports (51 to 150 printed pages) on topics that include first-person reports on exploring the Amazon River; interpretations of travels in national myths; system dynamics mapping and simulations of guests and service providers decisions and actions in hotels; cultural influences on unconscious and conscious thoughts relating to visitor and local resident interactions; assessing management performances of destination marketing offices (DMOs); analyses of behaviors relating to movie tourism, medical tourism, wine tourism, road-trip tourism; cognitive mapping of thinking by tourism managers; the creation and interpretation of visual narrative art relating to fine art or real-life travel themes (“Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?”—Gauguin’s masterpiece might come-to-mind here), and a broad range of cultural, tourism and hospitality subjects.
Volumes in the ACTHR provide an intellectual feast with several topical starters, multiple main courses, and more than two desserts (the papers are similar to the quality of nonfiction articles appearing in the Atlantic and the Economist but with the additional benefit of complete citations to relevant literature.
Readers and behavioral scientists continually hungry for originality and in-depth, nitty-gritty, systematic reporting on a broad range of topics more than just touching on configurations of culture, tourism, and hospitality issues.
